Listen to Face in the Moon

Apparently, we’re all mortal. Even me. It hurts to lose friends, and it happens more and more often all the time. And as I mourn their loss, I find it difficult not to mourn my own — even though I’m still here. I wrote this song after the loss of Wichita mandolinist and all-around good guy Gary Palsmeier. I hope he’s pleading my case right now.

  D G D
I see your face in the moon tonight
                               G
I see your face in the moon tonight
A
you put up a helluva fight
      G
you been called home and it don't seem right
  D
I see your face in the moon tonight
  D G D
I see your face in the moon tonight

you know a man by the friends he made
you know a man by the friends he made
and the hand he dealt and the hand he played
and the good he did and the dues he paid
you know a man by the friends he made
you know a man by the friends he made

I'll see you when my time comes due
I'll see you when my time comes due
if I play it plumb and square and true
if I'm half as good a man as you
I'll see you when my time comes due
I'll see you when my time comes due

So plead my case to the lord above
So plead my case to the lord above
won't go on the wings of a snow white dove
cuz I'm hard to hold and I'm hard to love
So plead my case to the lord above
So plead my case to the lord above

I see your face in the moon tonight
I see your face in the moon tonight
you put up a helluva fight
you been called home and it just ain't right
I see your face in the moon tonight
I see your face in the moon tonight

I see your face in the moon tonight
I see your face in the moon tonight
