Here’s what MTV thinks I sound like. MTV has an online feature* that identifies similar artists, and below you’ll see the artists they believe sound the most like me. Or me like them. Whatever. It’s a grand collection of great singer-songwriters, solo and otherwise, from the same folk-rock musical neighborhood where I hang around.

I’m flattered, but I don’t think I disagree. This display of musical artists looks a whole lot like my CD collection.

This list changes a little from time to time. It’s always pretty much the same artists, but the order gets slightly rearranged. But the top three always stay the same: T-Bone Burnett, followed by Joe Pug and Darrell Scott.

Here’s the full list, as of 6/6/14: ┬áT-Bone Burnett | Joe Pug | Darrell Scott | Jesse Winchester | Grant-Lee Phillips | Michelle Shocked | Lucinda Williams | Glenn Phillips | Josh Ritter | Joe Henry | Alejandro Escovedo | Colin Hay | Mary Gauthier | John Prine | Jackie Greene | James McMurtry | Jimmy Webb | Chris Whitley | Shawn Mullins | Slaid Cleaves | Jim White | Levon Helm | Bruce Cockburn | Maria McKee | Mark Kozelek | Tom Russell | Robert Earl Keen | Exene Cervenka | Marshall Crenshaw | Dan Wilson | Neil Young | Chris Smither | Arlo Guthrie | John Hiatt | Billy Bragg | Paul Simon | Richard Thompson | 10,000 Maniacs | Steve Earle | Ron Sexsmith | Rodney Crowell | Martin Sexton | Shelby Lynne | Bob Schneider | Justin Townes Earle | Bruce Springsteen
